Photo: Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand in ‘The Guilt Trip’

Yes, a post about a movie starring Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand. No, that is not a pig flying outside but if it is please save me a wing. A photo has been released for this movie that’s coming out on Christmas Day and if somehow you’re spending your Christmas doing anything other than watching Django Unchained then this will be an…option.

A traveling salesman Seth Rogen talks his mother (Barbra Steisand) into heading out on the road with him so that he can, unbeknownst to her, reunite her with a former fling in this Paramount Pictures comedy. The Proposal’s Anne Fletcher directs from a script by Dan Fogelman. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Iron Man 3 filming delayed due to injury of Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. is a hard working individual. The guy barely had enough time to bask in the success of the Avengers flick before he had to suit back up and get back to work for the next Iron Man installment that’s been filming for the last few weeks. Well it seems that he had a bit of a mishap on the set of the film and suffered an injury which will delay filming of the film while he recovers.

“Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates.”

Oddly enough, in chatting with Downey Jr. at Comic-Con last month, he said the following about participating in dangerous stunts himself:

“Well I don’t know. I just said while I’m physically able I’d like to leave it all on the field and I’d like there to be ten moments where people wonder how I was stupid enough to actually do that stunt. Most of all me.”

Wow. The general assumption is that he sprained his ankle or something which would prohibit him from participating in any scenes that involve a good amount of movement which is understandable. A little bummed out but it also excites me to see the finished product.
Please feel Better and get well soon Mr. Downey Jr.

Red Band Trailer #2: The Man with the Iron Fists

This is a little unexpected but it seems that the RZA, of the Wu Tang Clan, has made effort to release another trailer for his interesting and exciting looking film “The Man with the Iron Fists” to send us off into the weekend. How lovely. Maybe we can get another flying eyeball? Let’s see…

Brilliantly bloody and violent. This isn’t the type of film I expect to see vying for Academy attention but this may be the best looking mindless action popcorn flick of the summer, with the only problem it has being that  it’s not releasing in the summer. I have interest in seeing this motley crew of talent come together and my interest for assessing RZA as a director is unmeasurable but so far he’s leaning more on the favorable side then the negative.

Dredd’s behind the scenes featurette

I’m growing increasingly anxious for this film to be released after all the good Comic Con 2012 buzz for this film and to help either whet my appetite or send me into a minor frenzy a new featurette for the film as we grow closer to the release of this film. Check out the cast and crew gushing over the movie below:

Four New Alex Cross photos

Alex Cross is a film that I’m apprehensively optimistic about. I get the dislike for Tyler Perry, I do, but something tells me that beneath the exterior lies potential. He knows a thing or two about making the unexpected succesful and with him climbing out of his comfort zone to scoop the Alex Cross role from under Idris Elba’s tight grip it gives us the opportunity to determine if there’s any validity to that potential to be a appreciable actor outside of his self-created films. A few new images from the film have been released showcasing Perry and his co-star Matthew Fox for us to enjoy and ponder.

Too early to tell how things will turn out but I will give Perry credit for giving what looks to be his best effort of looking like a badass with a shotgun. We’ll see…

Let’s Talk: Whitney Houston Does ‘Sparkle’ in Her Final Film Performance

The new film “Sparkle,” a remake loosely inspired by The Supremes, is a reflection of the old school Motown music. As a film, it was meant to be a light and nostalgic look back at a beloved, golden era of musical talent. However, with the unexpected passing of Whitney Houston in February, the film unintended becomes a tribute to the famed diva that struggled with personal demons. Though “Sparkle” is inspired by the Supremes, the viewer is reminded during scenes of domestic and drugs abuse of Whitney Houston’s tragic elements that hindered her career, ultimately cut her life short.

“Sparkle” wasn’t my type of film and I wasn’t even sure which actress was Jordin Sparks. This is not meant to serve someone in my early thirty-ish white male demographic.  I went because I consider Whitney Houston to be one of the great musicians from my childhood. She doesnt have much in common with Bruce Springsteen which is, my favored iconic rocker, however Whitney captured the essence of the 80's era in her own way. In my own way I went out of respect to honor the legend.  I was also very curious to watch Whitney Houston’s final performance.

For a film, “Sparkle” has plenty of estrogen driven, heavy-handed, melodramatic moments involving the cutthroat music business and family fighting. Jordin Sparks of “American Idol”  isn’t quite up to tasks as Houston, but also the relatively unknown Carmen Ejogo upstages Ms. Sparks as well. I assumed Carmen Ejogo was the lead. This was supposed to be a Jordin Sparks movie, but it was unsuccessful at doing so. What makes “Sparkle” tragic is this movie could have been the perfect comeback vehicle for Whitney Houston.  She was a better actress in this then in “The Bodyguard” or “The Preachers Wife” with actual genuine potential. You are haunted by her on screen presence. One scene that was superb features a confrontation dinner table scene involving the family fighting. The tension simmers and boils over to the point of strong reactions from the advanced screening audience. The moment was emotionally cringe worthy and a dramatic highlight of the mediocre musical film.

Whitney Houston served as Executive Producer for “Sparkle;” this was a project close to her heart. Pastor T.D. Jakes was one of the producers and he has financially backed a few light-hearted faith-based films for the African Americans audiences. There is plenty of lackluster moments which hinders ‘Sparkle’ from achieving even being a ‘good’ movie, however, what will stick with Motown and gospel music fans is Whitney Houston’s performance which balances numerous emotions and quite a dominant personality; somber and soothing yet feisty and ferocious. Watching what might be her widely seen final musical performance where she beautifully sings the gospel song “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” accompanied with a church chorus induced chills and incited goose bumps for me. This is the emotional and spiritual climax to “Sparkle” for the viewers. Its as if Whitney battled her demons, sought redemption and was ready to soar . Jordin Sparks just doesn’t deliver in her final musical number as much as Whitney did. And “Sparkle” at least captured apart of Whitney Houston’s legacy of a talented musician who’s life ended too soon.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt questioned about Dark Knight Rises ending possible sequel

You are Here » News Chat » Joseph Gordon-Levitt questioned about Dark Knight Rises ending possible sequel

I don’t want to say too much about how Joseph Gordon Levitt’s character and how he relates to the Dark Knight Rises because it wanders into spoiler territory. Heavily. EXTREMELY SPOILER-ISH. I tried my best not to spoil a thing in my review and I won’t start revealing now so if you haven’t seen the film then you ought to stay the hell away from this post and from the below clip! Gone? good. Now the rest of you definitely wanna check this out at Jimmy Kimmel flat out asks Levitt about the ending and didn’t give opportunity for him to shy away…

I like that he totally geeked out about being the ending and what it potentially means for him. It’s pretty candid of him to admit that he doesn’t know what’s gonna happen with the next one but that’s partially expected. Only time will tell…

Stan Lee’s favorite DC character is…

Stan “The Man” Lee is a legend. The guy co-created Spider-man. He helped creat a bunch of lesser popular characters like a fantastic four or captain avenger or something but I’m sticking with his greatest success being Spider-Man. He recently participated in a Reddit Q & A and was asked whom his favorite DC Super Hero was and his answer is kinda surprising…

I certainly didn’t see that coming… Lobo? Really? I woulda guessed Green Lantern. Seems more Lee-ish to me.

Violent new clip for Expendables 2

Possible details on a Guardian of the Galaxy?

Marvel is excited about their next wave of films. Me too. My only problem is that I don’t know much about The Guardians of the Galaxy to really know why it is that I should be excited about their film in particular. Marvel is making good strides with their “Avengers Assemble” book that’s being handled by scribe extrodonaire Brian Michael Bendis and my all-around favorite artist Mark Bagley which goes a long way to amplify my interest but what about everyone else? Why should anyone/everyone care? Well it appears that Marvel has a plan for that as well and some interesting details about one undisclosed character may have found its way online…

About a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

and that specific character? Right here:

Peter Quill is born during an unusual astronomical phenomenon when many of the planets align. Seeing no resemblance, the man who believed he was Quill’s father accuses his wife Meredith of infidelity and attempts to kill the infant, but dies of a sudden heart attack. Quill is raised by his single mother until she is killed by an alien. Quill is placed in an orphanage but escapes and eventually becomes a trainee NASA astronaut. An alien entity called the Master of the Sun eventually visits the space station that Quill and other astronauts are inhabiting, and offers the mantle of Star-Lord (an interplanetary policeman) to a worthy candidate. Quill volunteers, but is rejected in favor of a colleague he once treated badly.
Quill is outraged, and NASA orders his return to Earth and discharge for his conduct. Instead, he steals a scoutship, returns to the space station, and takes his colleague’s place. Quill becomes Star-Lord, with the Master of the Sun first creating an illusion in which the character is able to find and kill the aliens that murdered his mother to free him of his past. Equipped with a sentient vessel called “Ship”, Quill commences his role as Star-Lord.

Sounds incredibly interesting if they are in fact referring to Peter Quill but the word on the net is that there is no official mention or confirmation to the identity of the character. It’d be fun to guess and speculate but I’ll leave that to you guys, the experts because I honestly just don’t know enough about the history of the character to comment. Anybody willing to offer any insight about this possible revelation?

Dolph Lundgren wants Channing Tatum or Chris Hemsworth for He-Man

Dolph Lundgren ingrained himself into my brain with his portrayal of character “He-Man” in Masters of the Universe. That was like 30 years ago. There were hopes to revive and revitalize the franchise for modern day that’s been met with enthusiasm but minimal progress. When Dolph Lundgren was recently quizzed as to his thoughts on who would be a good fit he had a few choice ideas in mind:

“You need somebody who’s well built and charming. And he can deliver a couple of lines of dialogue,” he said. “Channing Tatum? He’s got a naturally athletic body. You need realmuscles, you need somebody who is built.“

When asked if Chris Hemsworth would be right for the role, Lundgren replied: “Yeah! That’s a good idea. I’m onboard.“

Interesting ideas! I may not be a big fan of Tatum but Hemsworth as He-Man? That’s an idea that seems so fitting that I’m kicking myself for not making this determination on my own! Sure it’s a little similar to the roles that he’s already been taking in his recent film selection but is that such a bad thing? Let me know what you think. Tatum or Hemsworth?

Raiders of the Lost Ark in IMAX for a limited time

There was this character that these guys George Lucas and Steven Spielberg collaborated to bring to life in film a while back. Maybe you heard of it. The movie went on to some level of success that they feel warranted to re-introduce the film to audiences in IMAX form for a limited time. Director Steven Spielberg is positively elated at their progress thus far and has chimed in on the subject as well as handing over a poster to promote the release this September.

I didn’t know if the 1981 print would stand up to a full IMAX transfer, so I came expecting a sort of grainy, muddy, and overly enlarged representation of the movie I had made [31] years ago. And I was blown away by the fact that it looked better than the movie I had made [31] years ago.

All the shadows in the earlier scenes that we shot in Hawaii [were] always kind of muddy anyway on 35mm, because we couldn’t schlep all of our big arc lights down into this valley. Suddenly, there was definition in the shadows, which I had never seen before. And the shadows weren’t murky and washed out; they were sharp as a tack.

I think the only other movie I would ever think about going out on an IMAX screen would be Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Forty percent of that film was shot in 70 millimeters, so the conversion would look extraordinary if we ever did put it up on an IMAX screen.

I’m somewhat excited about this news depending on the availability of tickets at the 70mm IMAX locations in my area. That and Close Encounters of the Third King?!? Yes, Please.
